CHP unit at CIT

 Combined Heat and Power Unit at CIT

 

A Combined Heat and Power (CHP) unit has been installed in the main boiler house at the Bishopstown Campus by the Buildings & Estates Department. The unit has a thermal capacity of 180 kWh and an electrical generation capacity of 115 kWh.

 

The unit has shown the following results so far:

 

140,500 kWh of electrical power generated which equates to €15,000 savings at current energy costs.

 

The CHP is showing a 12% reduction in Gas consumption compared with the same operational times between January and February 2012 (savings of €6,030).

 

CIT have also signed a partnership agreement with the SEAI (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland) to work towads reducing our energy consumption at CIT. This will help us reach our target reduction in energy consumption of 33% by 2020.
