New Recycling Bins on Campus

CIT have put new recycling bins in place around the Campus. These bins are located at Recycle Points around the campus. Please make every effort to use these bins correctly.

The bins are colour coded and are aimed at increasing recovery and also preventing waste generation.

The blue bin is provided for your paper recycling (office paper, newsprint etc.). The red bin is provided for dry recyclables (bottles, cans etc.) and the green bin in the centre is provided for general waste that is not recycled (dirty waste, food wrappers). The table below lists the waste that is accepted in each bin.

Items accepted in each bin

Blue Green Red
clean paper food wrappers plastic bottles
officce paper dirty waste cans
newsprint yoghurt pots clean terta-pak*
magazines

*Clean tetra-pak includes empty juice cartons etc.

The waste in the blue and red bins is recycled and the waste contained in the green bin is sent to landfill. Please make every effort to separate your waste and always think WASTE PREVENTION.

Separate food waste bins are also provided in locations e.g. the Canteen. This clearly labelled bin accepts plate scrapings, fruit and veg, bread, teabags etc. This waste stream is composted.

Batteries, ink cartridges and mobiles

Recycle your batteries, ink cartridges and mobiles at the bottom of the stairs in B block corridor.
