Earth Hour a great success at CIT

Earth Hour a Success at CIT

Earth Hour, which took place Saturday 26th March from 8.30pm to 9.30pm was a great success at CIT. Well done to all the staff and students who made the effort to Switch Off - Plug Out. Typical energy usage during the week at CIT ranges form 970 to 990 kWh from 8.30pm to 9.30pm. Energy consumption for Earth Hour was 534 kWh (45% reduction compared to a week day) with noted reductions from the Library/IT building, C125 (lab), parts of B Block and the Workshops.

A saving of 436 kWh represents a saving of 88 kg CO2 emissions between 8.30pm and 9.30pm. This saving is equivalent to switching off 4,360 100W bulbs or switching off completely 12,683 PC's that were left on standby. It also represents economic savings for the Institute.

This successful reduction in electrical consumption out side working hours sets a benchmark for CIT showing that savings can be achieved through good housekeeping.

Please keep up the good work and remember to Switch Off - Plug Out every evening and weekend at CIT.  Let's work together to make Earth Hour a permanent feature at CIT.
